The Mad Greek Cafe
About
The Mad Greek is a kitschy Greek restaurant in Baker, California that advertises that it has the best Greek food in the world. If you love kitschy restaurants, you'll love this place. I can't really say it represents ONE era. It has blue booths, which one might typically classify as 50's, but the blue in this case represents Greek colors. You'll see neon too. You'll also see decor that will remind you of ancient Greece. The sign has a 70's vibe to it. I think it has been open since the 80's, but I'm really not sure. Does anyone know when it opened? I haven't been, but I have seen many photos of it over the years.
People stopping here in the middle of a long drive consider it a fun stop "in the middle of nowhere" on their way to Los Angeles or Las Vegas, which is often how people traveling on the east coast refer to "South of the Border" in South Carolina on their drive between New York and Florida on 95. If you've explored Baker, California and have made other discoveries there, feel free to share them here! I did find out that the world's tallest thermometer is located there. See! It gets better all the time!
