John's Pizzeria on 44th St in NYC
About
John's Pizzeria is a newer pizzeria, but is located in an old cathedral in New York City. The original John's Pizzeria has been serving coal fired, brick oven pizza since 1929 on Bleecker Street. That one is still open, but this one is their new location. Although it opened in recent years, we are still including it on the Retropolis site because it is located in an old cathedral (built in 1888) where you can look up at the beautiful old stained glass dome ceiling while you eat pizza. Seating for 400 people.
Be sure to search Retropolis for old pizzerias in New York (or newer restaurants that are located in unique old buildings), plus other vintage pizzerias and restaurants throughout the US! Just click on TRAVEL.
