Maurice's BBQ Piggie Park

Maurice's BBQ Piggie Park originally opened at this location in 1953. You can't miss it on Charleston Highway because of the tremendous 100 foot tall vintage Bar-B-Q sign with a pig on it. It lights up at night - dazzling! A vintage gem of a sign! Today there are multiple Maurice's Barbecue locations in South Carolina!

The Mad Greek Cafe

The Mad Greek is a kitschy Greek restaurant in Baker, California that advertises that it has the best Greek food in the world. If you love kitschy restaurants, you'll love this place. I can't really say it represents ONE era. It has blue booths, which one might typically classify as 50's, but the blue in this case represents Greek colors. You'll see neon too. You'll also see decor that will remind you of ancient Greece. The sign has a 70's vibe to it. I think it has been open since the 80's, but I'm really not sure. Does anyone know when it opened? read more...

Beefy King

I LOVE the name Beefy King. Instead of the king of burgers (Burger King), it's the king of... beefy.

Beefy King opened in Orlando, FL in 1967. Maybe tourists are attracted to Orlando because of all the endless new attractions, but if you want to try something that has been in Orlando before all of those attractions - something that is truly retro - try Beefy King. Roast beef, ham and pastrami... read more...

Solid Gold McDonald's

This Milwaukee area McDonald's was not built in the 1950's, however it has gone out of it's way to celebrate the 50's and 60's in unique ways. There is an animatronic singing moon at a grand piano who performs rock tunes. Some of the seats are motorcycle seats. There is a full size Harley Davidson motorcycle displayed inside revving it up a few times an hour. The website states that it is a museum of rock n roll. Rock memorabilia is displayed everywhere. The employees wear retro uniforms.

Yes, they serve the same food as other Mc Donald's restaurants.  read more...

Mary's Diner

"Mary's Diner was established in 1951 by Mary Williams. She had one full time employee, her sister Elsie, and one part time employee. She cooked and served in one room. This building was about 30 by 36 feet ( very small ) and only seated about 25 people. Business grew and she moved to another location on Arnett Blvd. This was wonderful: seating about 60 people and a private kitchen ! In 1956 a new building was constructed at 1201 Piney Forest Road, converting to cafeteria style. This was even more wonderful for Mary. She had a private kitchen and a private dining room. read more...
