1960's

MidPoint Cafe

This Adrian, Texas cafe is called the Midpoint Cafe because it is midway between Los Angeles and Chicago on Route 66. This cafe has been there since the 50's or 60's and the owner has decorated it with 50's and 60's retro diner decor to bring it back to that era (chrome and formica tables with vinyl chairs and vinyl booths, old signs on the walls...).

Stop by and have a slice of ugly crust pie at the halfway point between Chicago and Los Angeles!

Lasyone's Meat Pie Restaurant

Since the late 60's, complete with a giant faux meat pie in the front window. "Lasyone's Meat Pie Restaurant is the place to go for an authentic Creole/Cajun cuisine experience. Though the meat pie is as old as the Civil War, it wasn't until later that James Lasyone made this old time favorite famous. In 1967, Mr. Lasyone rented out the bottom half of a building that once was the home to the Phoenix Lodge #38, built in 1859. While the masons still occupied the top portion of the building, James Lasyone started his Meat Pie Kitchen. read more...

Moonlight Drive In Restaurant

Since 1964. This is a classic American drive-in restaurant complete with original moon and stars neon sign (the sign is the real deal... the type that new 50's retro restaurants try to emulate). A carhop will take your order from the car and bring your order on a tray. This is the type of restaurant my grandpa called a hamburger stand. Yes, you can get your hamburger here, your hotdog, or there are a variety of other options. Tues.-Thurs. 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Fri.-Sat. 11 a.m.-10 p.m. read more...

Wiener World

Eat outside or inside. No chairs. Simple, classic hotdog stand. The sign advertises that it has been Weiner World since 1965, but by the looks of this corner hot dog stand, I can't help but wonder if it was built in the 1920's or 30's.
