What was the 1950's dream of hospitals of the future?
To some people, the dream was a drawer in the wall that a baby could slide through, that way mother could hold baby whenever she'd like. Then, place baby back in the drawer and send him back over to the nurses. It reminds me of when you pull up to a bank drive thru and put your money into one of those capsules and send it off to the banker. However, baby doesn't fly through a tube, thank goodness.
While mother goes through the pains of labor, daddy gets to sit in the waiting room and talk with other men while smoking cigarettes. While I do like the looks of that space age bullet floor ash tray, I'd much rather it be a plant stand in the hospital room with a plant inside providing fresh oxygen, rather than an ashtray. But, the daddys needed something to do so they wouldn't be bored while mommy goes through labor.
I'm not sure if launching patients from their hospital beds into the swimming pool is such a good idea.
Thank you to 2thepast for posting this 50's hospital of the future on YouTube.
