A String of Pearls - for my Grandpa
My Grandpa passed away a few years ago, but I was thinking about him today. I asked him one time what his favorite song was, and he told me his favorite song was "A String of Pearls". This song will forever remind me of him. It's a gorgeous song, and I can see why he chose this one as his favorite. He was a teenager at the time that this song was number one on the Billboard charts in 1941.
I think our favorite music as teenagers remains our favorite the rest of our lives. Clothing styles change, our taste in decor changes, some of our favorite foods change, and even some friends come and go, but if we absolutely loved a song as a teenager, chances are, we still love it now.
I'm glad this song remained a favorite throughout my Grandpa's life. It's a great song to have as a favorite. It was originally performed by Glenn Miller and his Orchestra. It was written by Jerry Gray, who also wrote "Pennsylvania 6-5000", among other tunes. My Grandpa loved big band music, and he used to play sax in a big band when he was younger. My mom followed in his footsteps and played the sax. Then, I followed in their footsteps and played the sax. Thanks to my Grandpa and big band music for bringing the sax into our family! I could thank my Grandpa for many things, but that's just one of them.
The YouTube user who created this video shows pictures of actress Anita Louise along with this song, as a tribute to Anita Louise. Anita Louise acted in approximately 70 movies in her lifetime, although she died at only the age of 55.
Thank you to blathermore for creating this YouTube tribute video for Anita Louise. The photos and the song go together beautifully.
