Space Age Futuristic Fashion of the 60's
Fashion in 1969 by Pierre Cardin. Those hood collars are incredible, and I love those metal pieces! People predicted back then that we would be wearing clothes that were more futuristic looking today.
Some futuristic fashion predictions of the past have come true in the new millennium, although some of the looks could have never been predicted. Some of them you love, some of them you hate, and some of them you may have a variety of opinions about. I've mixed them all up here, so they're in no particular order. Here's some of what has happened in fashion over the last ten years:
Ed Hardy
Sweatpants with a large word stamped across the bum
Families all dressed in matching clean white outfits, posing for a family photo on the beach
Crocs
Peace signs (mainly in 2009 inspired by the 40th anniversary of Woodstock)
Bags designed to hold a little dog
Vintage style t-shirts that already look aged on the rack
Mini skirts that begin just above the crotch and end just below the crotch
Bracelets that support a cause
Velour
Uggboots
Jeans that are already torn and distressed on the rack
Organic
Jeans that hang so low that the entire pair of boxers are exposed
Tops with big medallions at the bust
Flip flops
Chandelier earrings
Sleeveless wedding gowns
The color brown
The return of the monogram
Snuggies
Platinum wedding bands
The craft of jewelry making (craft stores have greatly expanded those departments as the trend grew)
Less business suits / More business casual
Spray tans
Sarah Palin glasses (sales of the style of her glasses went up in 2008)
Reusable shopping bags are sold in most stores with a variety of designs
Big increase in fashion for dogs
Black nail polish (being worn by more of the general population and not just the goths)
Bluetooth on the ear
Less pantyhose / More women opt for bare legs instead
Patriotic clothing (red, white and blue colors were worn much more after September 11th, 2001)
Visible bra straps by females wearing tank tops (women used to hide these, except during the 80's Madonna trend)
Return of 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's fashions (a variety of trends from those decades resurfaced)
Thank you to cosmocorps2000 for posting this great video to YouTube. In the credits it read: MUSIC: MIKE MELVOIN "THE PLASTIC COW" 1968 LAY LADY LAY (B. Dylan). I LOVED the music too!

Pleating
In the last ten seconds, the black and white dress on the right reminded me of the dresses and skirts designed by Leanne Marshall for the Project Runway finale of season 5. I had never seen pleating that looked anything like Leanne Marshall's designs until this video of Pierre Cardin's fashions. I believe she said she was inspired by water. Here are her designs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHtcvNf_CVs&feature=related I thought her line was amazing.
