Silly Putty in my Easter basket
The Easter Bunny used to always fill our Easter baskets every year, and one of the items my brother and I would always get was silly putty.
We enjoyed it every year - opening the egg to find the fresh putty, the smell of the putty, the squishyness, and the ability to shape and reshape it. I remember flattening it out over the Sunday comics (which I always referred to as "the funnies") to see pictures of my favorite comic strip characters, which I would stretch into new shapes.
What amazed me about the commercial in this video is that the guy starts off the commercial SMOKING. That's something you would never see in a children's commercial these days. That one dollar price tag was pretty high for something like putty back in those days.
This was the first ever silly putty commercial. As it started off, I thought "How would you explain to kids WHAT silly putty is if they've never seen it before?" But, he did do a great job. It made me all nostalgic for that Easter silly putty tradition.
Thank you to VintageTVCommercials for posting this commercial on youtube.

Silly Putty
Walmart sells generic Silly Puddy for the same price it cost for actual Silly Putty back then.
I just bought some for my nephew.
It's a pity other prices don't stay the same.
