Phabulous Phoenix Phashion in the Phiphties
Or, that should say... Fabulous Phoenix Fashion in the Fifties. But, I couldn't help but enjoy the opportunity to overuse the phact that the "Ph" is an "F" sound in "Phoenix".
The video starts with women arriving in Phoenix off of a TWA plane, where they are greeted by Joyce in her 50's Western Squaw dress. The women go shopping in Scottsdale where Marianne shows off her Squaw dress with Mandarin neckline. Then, they head off to Camelback Inn where we get to see even more 1950's Western clothes.
I was just as intrigued by the grounds they were walking as what they were wearing. The Camelback Inn is not only still around, but it has expanded from 118 rooms to 453 rooms. It originally opened in 1936. This is what it looks like now: http://www.camelbackinn.com/ Click on HISTORY to see photos of it's past.
With the sunshine, palm trees, cacti*, shopping, beautiful Squaw dresses, fruit on trees, and beautiful grounds to stroll, no wonder people in Arizona are so happy. Or, at least they appeared to be happy in the 1950's. And they are certainly happy now. Arizona was recently ranked the fifth happiest state in America. Or, should I say "phipth" happiest state.
Thank you to StatesRightsDemocrat for posting this PHAB 50's Arizona video on YouTube.
* It's also nice to have the opportunity to say "cacti", the fun plural phorm of "cactus". Those of us that don't live out West rarely get that opportunity.
