One of the first movies ever in New York City - Filmed over 100 years ago

At just over a minute long, "WHat Happened on 23rd Street, New York City"  is one of the earliest short films. It gives you a good understanding of what the sidewalks and streets of NYC looked like in the summer in the early 1900's. They were dressed warmly, although it was filmed in August in 1901. This was actually their summer attire. New York is hot in the summer even for those with shorts on, so I can't imagine how hot this must have been in the 1901 attire. The couple at the end are actors who were showing what many women go through who walked over that street blower. The blower raises the woman's skirt up, and she tried to pull it back down, and then laughs. This commonly happened back then, which would embarass women. Of course, women were much more modest back then, so revealing ankles, calves, and knees was a big deal. These days there are women who let their mini skirts drop down so far from their waist that their thong panties show in the back. Doesn't the woman in this video look so classy in comparison?
