A New Orleans Ditty
When it comes to country music, this is the real deal. Recorded eighty years ago, it still reflects the feeling one has while in New Orleans today. Yes, it is known as a party city. But, it is also a very relaxed city. In New York City when you walk on a sidewalk, you're usually in a hurry even when you're not in a hurry. In New Orleans, you casually stroll. You may even stop to look at the moss on the trees or to listen to someone playing the sax on the corner.
Jimmie Rodgers recorded six other songs on the same day he recorded this one while in New Jersey. And yet, he sounds just as relaxed as if he were sitting on a bench in New Orleans for a casual afternoon. If someone recorded a song like this in a studio today, it would probably sound very overly produced and would lack the emotion of Jimmie Rodger's version.
Thank you to youtube user manhatin for giving us the opportunity to hear AND see this great old record. There's nothing like watching a record go round and round while listening to music. "My Little Old Home Down in New Orleans" was recorded in 1928 by Jimmie Rodgers.
