Mount Airy, NC: Otherwise known as Mayberry, home to Andy Griffith

Andy Griffith was born in Mount Airy, and The Andy Griffith Show and the fictional town town of Mayberry is believed to be based on Mount Airy. Now Mount

Airy is in many ways based on Mayberry. You will find tributes to the show wherever you go in town, especially downtown, where you will find cute little

shops and Snappy Lunch, an original old diner known for it's porkchop sandwiches. http://www.thesnappylunch.com/

Because of the Mayberry connection, there is love of the innocence of the 1950's and 60's in Mount Airy. You will see many 50's style souvenirs in the

souvenir shops. The photographs in the video are a great example of the 50's charm you'll see throughout Mount Airy and the surrounding small NC & VA towns

(Virginia and the Blue Ridge Parkway are just over yonder). At night you can go to an original 1950's drive-in movie theatre, The Bright Leaf Drive-In.
