Missouri - Bennie Moten's Kansas City Orchestra - Rumba Negro -1929

After listening to country blues yesterday, Retropolis travels to Missouri today to listen to a blues-based orchestra.

Listen to the sounds of Bennie Moten's City Orchestra performing "Rumba Negro" while viewing photos of the orchestra and photos of Kansas City eighty years ago. Bennie Moten was a jazz pianist and band leader who was born in Kansas City in 1894. He died when he was only 41 years old because of a "botched tonsillectomy".
