Mahalo to Hilo, Hawaii for restoring a beautiful old theater

Retropolis gives a big salute to the people of Hilo who combined their efforts to restore The Palace Theater so that it can continue to be appreciated now and in the future. Too many old theaters in the United States have been destroyed or have been left to deteriorate.

This video from 1999 shows that when a community comes together with patience and a plan, little by little the magic of the past can be brought back to life. That's how this theater, built in 1925, is able to entertain the people of Hilo again today.

The Palace Theater website http://www.hilopalace.com/Main/default.aspx shows that some of the upcoming events include the 5th Annual May Day Lei Day Festival, an evening of comedy with Frank DeLima, The Goodnight Gecko Ballet, Culture Shock Camp, and the Hawaiian Treasures Celebration Tour.

Thank you cinematone1 for uploading this video to youtube.
