"The Little House" - the smallest house in Toronto, built in 1912

This darling little house was built nearly 100 years ago, and the builders somehow managed to squeeze it between the two larger houses. It's only just over 7 feet wide at the front and 8 1/2 feet wide at the back, so if you can imagine laying down across the width, if you put your feet against one side of the house, you could almost reach behind your head to touch the other side of the house. Front to back, the house measures 47 feet. Yet, this house has everything a person needs - a bed, a kitchen sink, an oven, a refrigerator, counter space, a bathtub and shower, a toilet, a bathroom sink, a living area with TV, a desk, and the murphy bed flips up to provide even more space for entertaining. I thought to myself, "They must have to take their clothes to the laundromat because there's no way a washer and dryer would fit in that house." But, I looked at the photos of the house on a website, and lo and behold, there's a stackable washer and dryer in there! Whoever designed the inside of the house did an excellent job of making room for everything, and yet there is still plenty of space to move around.

The smallest house in Toronto was built in 1912, the same year the largest ship in the world sank. The Titanic was supposed to be the unsinkable ship. I doubt anyone made any promises like that about this little house, and yet it is still standing, looking lovely and strong as ever after nearly 100 years. Maybe good things DO come in small packages!
