Have a holly, jolly 1930's Christmas!
This home movie from around 1930 shows a little boy at Christmas who got every 1930's toy a boy could ever dream of - and more! He wasn't even old enough to make a list of the things he wanted. As you can see, some of the items are: a wind-up elephant, a wind-up horse, a wooden train made of blocks, a pedal car, stacking toys, a wooden duck pull toy (I love the way it's neck lunges! Is that toy an early wooden Fisher Price toy?), an enormous cast iron horse and carriage set (wow!!), a big dog on wheels (is that Steiff?), a wooden carpentry set, a boy doll, a scooter, a giant metal spinning top, a teddy bear, a rubber ball, a pull train, an electric train....
And what is that toy with the propeller at the top that spins around while little parts go up and down? What is that? Looks like fun!
I can't help it. I keep thinking, "If only those toys had been stored away! 1930's toy collectors would go nuts over these!". They look like the type of toys that would have come from F.A.O. Schwartz.
What a lucky boy to have so many wonderful toys during the Depression, when many children would have been happy to get even one toy for Christmas.
Sadly, there are still many kids today who might go without toys for Christmas. Toys for Tots does a great job collecting toys to give to children for Christmas. For more information, look here: http://www.toysfortots.org/
Thank you to MonkeyMotordrome for posting this adorable 1930's home movie to YouTube with great vintage Christmas songs added to it! According to MonkeyMotordrome they are one-of-a-kind Home Recordings by 4-year-old Helen Phelps (1953) and a singer/guitarist named Felix (1945). Loved them both!!!
