Happy 70's Easter!
Awwww this 70's home movie is really touching. We see girls in their long Easter dresses and Easter bonnets, and then the whole family presents themselves to the camera. It looks like such a beautiful spring day. I can smell the 70's fresh air. For some reason when I think of spring in the 70's, I remember the air to be extremely fresh and fragrant. I can just picture the little yellow flowers I loved to pick.
Their swing set brings back memories for me too - the squeaking of the swing, the cold metal that we'd climb up, and the unusual two seater swing where you'd get to face someone, but you'd never get to swing high on that two seater swing, no matter how hard you tried. In the video you can see the swingsets in the suburban yards next door too.
The gymnastics near the end of the video remind me of photos I have of my friend and I doing gymnastics for the camera when we were five. I'm sure my biggest stunt was a somersault or a back bend. I was always afraid of any move that involved the possibility of landing on my head. For some reason, even at a very young age, I was concerned that I would snap my neck or knock myself out. I guess this is why I got so good at doing back bends. I would do them from the ground up, so there was little possibility I would end up paralyzed. I perfected my back bend and could stay in a back bend so long that I won contests and ribbons for that at school. When we all had to line up to do cartwheels on the mat, I was always prepared to look like a collapsing clutz. And indeed I did look like a collapsing clutz! I could never do a cartwheel. But, there was always hope that we'd get to do backbends.
I hope your Easter is filled with gymnastics moves, long dresses, bonnets, swingset time, and time with your family!
Thank you to bluecloudvideo for showing your 1977 home movie on YouTube.
