Guilty.

I'm guilty of doing many of those dance moves in this video. I can't help it. I love to dance, and I especially love the cheesiest dance moves best of all.

I took my first dance class when I was three and I've loved dancing ever since. I can still remember that very first dance class. We marched around to the Mickey Mouse Club theme in a circle, then joined hands as we went around in a circle. I loved the visual effect of everyone doing something in unity, and how I could be a part of it.

You can still get that sense of unity on a wedding reception dance floor and a few clubs here and there, although so many dance clubs come with attitudes that would never allow the kind of dancing that gives people some sort of sense of unity. My favorite dance club EVER was a club attached to a hotel in Upstate New York. This was in the late 90's, but the place was stuck in the 60's, 70's, and 80's, and not in an intentionally retro way. The people who went there were of all ages and backgrounds, which is rare for a dance club. Some of the people were characters you thought you'd only see in movies, but would never get to see in real life.

My favorite night there was the night they played the song "Copacabana" by Barry Manilow. I was still a little kid when that song was originally popular in the 70's, so I never got to dance to it at a club. To dance on a dance floor with people who took that song very seriously made it priceless. My friend and I were transported in time back to the 70's, which meant we did a lot of swinging each other around. I'd been to "retro disco" nights at clubs, but this place was special.  It had never left the past in the first place. Yes, we did act out certain lines, such as "Who shot who?" But, I must admit that I discovered how glamorous that song is. Copacabana really is a gorgeous dance song.

The number one move everyone does when they're on the dance floor and they feel dorky, but they don't know what to do with that dorkyness, is the "Stayin' Alive" disco move (or maybe it's "Night Fever"; he demonstrated it in the video).  It involves pointing diagonally up, and then pointing diagonally down. I think we've all seen that move a billion times in our lives. Why did that become THE cheezy move? It's a move that now says, "Look, I get that I'm being cheesy, but I'm doing it on purpose, so that means it's cool. That makes me a fun person." I'm guilty of doing it too.

The box step - also guilty.

Jazz hands - guilty.

The running man - poorly, but guilty.

Claire's dance moves from "The Breakfast Club" - guilty.

Elaine's dance moves from Seinfeld - guilty. Thumbs out.

The robot - affirmative.

But, I don't do ALL the cheesy dance moves. I don't use a pretend mic when I sing along. I don't need to. My pretend mic is wireless.

Thank you to lloydstephens for creating this hilarious dance video and posting it to YouTube for all to see! I actually think he's a great dancer!

You're too Funny!

Dude- I so have a wireless mic - it especially gets good usage in the car:) This was such a funny post; I've never been much for clubs but those I have been too have always been a little sketchy and judgmental- no fun at all! Weddings are much cooler and everyone seems to have a good time.
Anyways, miss you LOTS this weekend! I can't wait to see you sometime soon- You two need to come on a vacation to Washington... We'd love to have you here!
