Dutch People and their Bicycles
I love that Dutch people use their bicycles to get from point A to point B. There are people who do that in America also, but it seems that a higher percentage of the Dutch ride their bikes to go places (as compared to riding it just for fun or exercise, which is also great, of course). In the area of the city where we live right now it isn't very bike-friendly. We'd probably eventually get hit by a car if we tried to ride our bikes to the supermarket or post office.
This video shows that The Netherlands has a long history of being a bicycle-friendly country. I enjoyed the variety of 1950's Dutch bicycles, some of which looked very different from any bicycles I've ever seen before.
Thank you to lvalleygirl for posting this video on YouTube of 1950's Holland bicycles. A friend of mine just got back from Nederland, and another friend is just about to begin her vacation there. So, I was inspired to find something about that beautiful country. I dedicate this blog entry to my two Dutch traveling tulip friends. :-)
