Can you find these things in the 1970's Burger Chef commercial?
Can you find these things in the 1970's Burger Chef commercial?
1. Customers riding by the restaurant while eating on a horse.
2. A person who pronounces "ketchup" like the spelling of the word "catsup": Cats Up.
3. A woman eating french fries on the roof.
4. A star spangled 70's Burger Chef kite with the words "Super Shef" on it
5. Two pairs of black framed glasses
6. A beautiful 70's commercial jingle playing in the background
7. A little girl with choppy side swooped bangs
8. A boy riding by on a bicycle with another boy on his shoulders who is drinking a milkshake from a straw
9. An actress who appears to be caught-off guard by a camera, who then tidies her hair
10. A family who all sits in the same booth seat next to each other, rather than facing each other
11. A long station wagon parked next to a 60's Volkswagen Bug in the parking lot
12. A peppermint striped apron
13. A girl sitting all by herself eating in the car with the car door open
Now, after spotting these in the video, ask yourself, "Which of these would I find while eating at a fast food restaurant today?"
I'm thinking probably none of them, except the choppy side swooped bangs, since those are so popular these days. Women sitting on the roof eating fries and couples riding by on horses while eating their meals just aren't common scenes today like they were in the 70's. ;-)
Sadly, Burger Chef went out of business. It was sold to Hardee's. The last remaining Burger Chef closed in 1996. It originally opened in 1954 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Eventually only one other fast food chain had more locations - McDonalds. I remember Burger Chef's logo with it's friendly, smiling chef with his tongue sticking out. We had a Burger Chef in Ohio where I lived when I was just a little girl, and I used to always think it was a happy place because of that chef. Also, they gave out neat free stuff to kids. We particularly liked the floppy records which you could play on your record player if you placed a coin on them to keep them flat. Oh, those were the days.
Two Hardee's restaurants within a few miles from here closed within the last couple years. I wonder if they would consider putting a Burger Chef in those locations. If they designed the building like the one in this video, it would be a hit!
Even if Burger Chef never comes back, can we at least please bring back 70's style jingles on the radio and on TV? Weren't those the best? Like a sweet little lullaby compared to some of the crazy EXTRA LOUD commercials we hear these days. I could listen to this Burger Chef jingle again and again.
Thank you to zimmtube for posting this Burger Chef commercial video on YouTube!
