Black History Month: First Interracial Kiss Between Two Men on Network Television

Yesterday I discussed the first interracial kiss between a man and a woman on TV. On the Wikipedia list of African-American firsts, it shows under 1972: "First African-American interracial male kiss on network television: Sammy Davis, Jr. (African American) and Carroll O'Connor (white) in All in the Family."

"All in the Family" was one of the most brilliant sitcoms of all time. It helped Americans understand just how foolish a prejudice bigot sounds, and it was so refreshing for America to be able to LAUGH at someone like that - an ignorant, prejudice fool.

The video is a clip from an "All in the Family" episode in which Archie feels that he is bonding with the celebrity Sammy Davis Jr. Archie is convinced that he's not a prejudice guy, and Sammy Davis Jr. (who knows that Archie is indeed a bigot) shows just how ignorant Archie is (SO ignorant, that Archie doesn't even know his own ignorance is getting mocked).

You'll see the famous interracial kiss near the end, and you'll hear the crowd roar with laughter too.

Sammy Davis Jr. was responsible for both first interracial kisses on TV (between a man and a woman, and between a man and a man).

Thank you to laughvids for uploading this video to YouTube.
