Glamorous Vintage Lingerie of the Past

The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show is on TV tonight. That got me thinking about what lingerie has looked like over the years in comparison to lingerie of today. I found this video on YouTube (thanks to glamourdaze for creating it!) which shows lingerie and glamorous fashion over the years. You won't see angel wings or women walking down sparkling runways. Instead you'll see vintage slips, corsets, and thigh high stockings.  read more...

Merry Christmas.... and Happy Smoking!

That's a line you never see people write on Christmas gift cards these days. As you can see from this vintage cigarette commercial, she suggests that by giving someone a carton of these cigarettes, you're giving them the gift of that greeting 200 times. Yes, as people smoked each one of those 200 cigarettes, they would daydream about the person who gave them that beautiful Christmas carton.

Oh, how times have changed! read more...

Do you remember this Coke ad?

I'd like to buy the world a Coke. Very few commercials give me goosebumps, but for some reason this 70's Coca Cola Christmas commercial still does. When I watched this as a little girl it really gave me the impression that there was unity all around the world. I'd like to be under that impression again. :-)  read more...

Christmas 25 Years Ago: 80's Electronics - VCRs, TVs & Video Cameras

While prices on almost everything else have gone up in the last 25 years, the price of a TV, video camera & VCR are actually a better deal this Christmas than back in mid 80's. For the same price as the televisions shown in the video, today you can buy a much higher quality TV that takes up less space. Video cameras are much cheaper, no longer big and bulky, and the quality of the video is so much better. I would have never guessed back then that people would one day be able to use their cell phones as a video camera (or that cell phones would even exist). read more...

Have a holly, jolly 1930's Christmas!

This home movie from around 1930 shows a little boy at Christmas who got every 1930's toy a boy could ever dream of - and more! He wasn't even old enough to make a list of the things he wanted. As you can see, some of the items are: a wind-up elephant, a wind-up horse, a wooden train made of blocks, a pedal car, stacking toys, a wooden duck pull toy (I love the way it's neck lunges! read more...

We've heard the song all our lives. But, how DO you roast chestnuts on an open fire?

Thanks to ChefTips for creating this YouTube video, we can finally know what to look for when purchasing chestnuts, and we can finally know how to roast chestnuts on an open fire (or roast chestnuts in the oven). I've never roasted chestnuts, so this was all new to me. The soaking, the scoring, the sour cream.... who knew? read more...

25 Years Ago - 1984 - Do They Know Its Christmas

I love this song and video even more after 25 years. Pure 80's magic! It's hard to believe these people were all together in one place on one very special day. I love that so many people, both the musicians and the fans who bought the music, wanted to do something to try to make the world a better place. It's sad that 25 years later there are still so many people in the world who are starving, but it doesn't have to stay that way forever. read more...

Happy Hanukkah! How about some traditional Hanukkah songs?

Thanks to maozisrael for this fun YouTube video in which people sing their favorite traditional Hanukkah songs (while we get a little tour of Tel Aviv, Israel!). I particularly enjoyed the word "Hanukkah" sung to the tune of "Jingle Bells". :-) read more...
