40 Years Ago: October 1969. Sugar Sugar was a number one hit. But, have you heard the gospel / soul version?

October is always a sweet month, but it was extra sweet forty years ago when the number one song was "Sugar Sugar" by The Archies (written by Jeff Barry and Andy Kim).

Thank you to ianabroad for posting a version of this song on YouTube that I've never heard before. It's beautiful! I can imagine it being in a Broadway musical. I originally thought this TV show was Soul Train, but now I'm not so sure. I don't know who the singers are either, but they're outstanding. They deserve so much credit for this.

To compare it to the original, here's the version that was the number one single of the year in 1969: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGL4btEIoTo&feature=related
