25 years ago - You Spin Me Round by Dead or Alive
Popular 25 years ago, "You Spin Me Round" is back once again on the charts right now with a new version by Flo Rida with the changed lyrics, "You spin my head right round right round when you go down, when you go down down". Blatant enough for ya?
Although I know there were plenty of songs in the 80's that were copied from the past in some way, it seems to be happening a lot more these days, and the new interpretations don't seem nearly as creative as they were in the 80's. I wonder what Pete Burns (the singer whom you see dancing in this video) thinks of the latest version of his song.
I looked him up on youtube to see if there was an interview with him, but instead I got distracted when I found that he had been on Celebrity Big Brother a few years ago. Here he is performing "You Spin Me Round" for the others who lived in the Big Brother house: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otQDVe9ujBk
As you can see, he dresses as a woman now. Well, he did 25 years ago, but back then it was a bit more in-between. In the 80's most people didn't even know that there was such a thing as crossdressing. So many pop and rock stars crossed gender lines and that was just the style norm. Pete Burns still thinks of himself as male; he hasn't become a female. Here he is in another clip from Celebrity Big Brother:

Thank you to Pete Burns for contributing to the great music of the 80's.... and for being himself.
