1951 Honeymoon Glamour in Miami
Florida has such a rich abundance of vintage glamour that it was hard to know where to begin when focusing on Florida.
I found this home movie on youtube that dadsoldtapes uploaded of his grandparents honeymoon in Miami in 1951 and it struck me as what everyone in America in the 40's and 50's dreamed Florida would be, if only they would get the chance to drive there to honeymoon or vacation. Or, maybe they would eventually retire there. That was one of the biggest American dreams of that era, and it still continues for many people today.
My grandparents retired to Florida in the late 70's and my grandma always called it paradise, saying it was the best place she could have gone for her health.
The couple in this home movie were having the ultimate Miami honeymoon dream. They looked stunning in their evening wear. I almost felt like I was watching a beauty pagent. Then, we continue on to the swimsuit competition with Miami glam at it's finest.
If you want to know what bathing suits in the 50's looked like, you'll enjoy this swanky swimsuit fashion show. In fact, when she first came down the stairs, it looked like she was wearing a classic black and white Chanel dress, although women didn't typically wear dresses that were so short in those days. Then, when I saw her sit down I thought she was wearing a chic pair of shorts and a top. Later I realized, "It's a bathing suit! WOW!"
That is one of the best looking bathing suits I have ever seen. Absolutely gorgeous. The other bathing suits shown further on in the movie also look gorgeous. I was just struck by how her black and white bathing suit looked like a little outfit that could be worn anywhere.
By today's standards as an outfit, it would be considered beautiful, but as a bathing suit, people would think it has too much fabric. I believe this was the best era in bathing suits and I am glad bathing suit trends today are heading back in this glamorous direction. Even the men back then were classy in their fab 50's button-down shirts (no t-shirts by the pool in those days) which they would sometimes leave open to stay cool and stay classy.
Thank you to dadsoldtapes for giving us a ride on a time machine back to glamorous 1951 Miami.
