The 1940's - Women could be mothers, swing dancers, AND baseball players
If you haven't seen the movie "A League of Their Own", you must see it. If you love the 1940's, if you love comedy, and you love to be inspired, you'll love "A League of Their Own". You don't have to love baseball to love the movie. In fact, you can hate baseball and still love this movie.
Based on a true story, the movie takes place in the 1940's during WWII. Because of the war, Major League Baseball was coming to a halt, so a women's baseball league was created. This movie shows what women of the 1940's went through to become professional baseball players. There were mothers, wives, and single women.
One night the women needed to release some stressful energy and have some fun, so they snuck out to go swing dancing, as you'll see in the video clip above. You'll recognize the two main swing dancers as Madonna and Rosie O'Donnell. It's a fantastic swing dancing scene!
If you love swing dancing, you'll also love the movie "Swing Kids".
If you love Rosie O'Donnell, you'll love the fact that she'll soon have a talk show on Oprah Winfrey's new network.
If you love vintage clothing of the 1940's or 1940's decor, you'll love that you can find places to buy it right here at http://www.retropolis.com
Just click on TRAVEL in the upper left corner of the page and search for vintage and antique stores near you by clicking on "Shopping" when you do your search with your zip code. If you want to find 1940's restaurants in America, click on TRAVEL, then click on Dining. In both cases, be sure to click on 1940's as the era. We may not literally be able to travel back in time to the 40's, but we can still find the 40's in some ways, such as by visiting 40's diners, or by shopping for 1940's clothing and furniture at vintage and antique stores.
